Some Girls talk pissing off Australians and praise from film directors!San Diego’s Some Girls have been kicking around the music scene since 2003, ruining ears with their vicious take on punk rock. Formed by Three One G boss Justin Pearson, some regard the band as a “super group’ due to various members (past and present) belonging to many now-defunct popular hardcore bands, (notably vocalist Wes Eisold from Give Up The Ghost)

Some Girls are well known for their “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it’ grind/hardcore style (as well as their refusal to fit into a “scene’) meaning that they are well suited for those with attention deficit disorder, with very few songs reaching past the minute mark. Listening to their sophomore effort, “Heaven’s Pregnant Teens‘ is a bit like being in a fight you have no chance of winning – brutal, blunt and about as subtle as a brick to the face, they do not mess around.

Keep It Fast managed to contact Justin to discuss name confusion, pissing off Australians and unexpected praise from film directors. Read on!

1) If you were going to perform in a club knowing they have no idea who Some Girls are, what would you do to make an impression?

It’s interesting that you ask, see Some Girls has some confusing times with that of “Juliana Hatfield’s Some Girls“. There were times when we would be billed to play and all these sorta college bound women would turn up. So right off the bat, we bummed people out, but there were times when we were billed on festivals like this one in Australia.

It was one turd after another on the bill. The only good band was the Hard On’s from way back in the day. Anyhow, one thing lead to another. First, people yelling shit at us, then throwing stuff, then violence broke out when we were throwing stuff back, and then we “Deathfaced” the audience for 20 minutes.

To top it off, throwing everything back into the audience that was thrown at us resulting in a broken nose by some guy in the crowd, my ass being exposed and then us being detained and threatened until the police showed up. At that point, the cops just didn’t understand things and told us to split. If I believed in luck, I’d have to say that we were pretty lucky.

Some Girls talk pissing off Australians and praise from film directors!2) When you playing such tracks such as ‘hot piss’, burning up the chords faster then a granny on fire, do you pose for camera or is it all ‘el natural’?

Well first off, I’m not sure that song is all that fast. Better yet, a granny on fire does not sound fast either. I don’t pose when playing live unless I’m bored and that pose would be a joke of some sort.

3) Have the audience ever been more frantic than your performances?

I don’t know.

4) Have any of the band members had any injuries during your performances? If so do they play on?

Yes, and yes.

5) What is the best thing someone has said to you after you have played?

John Waters came to see Some Girls on our last tour and said that we were good actors and that we were a smart band. Never heard those kind of compliments but coming from him, I was stoked.

6) Does the band have any plans to come to England?

Not at the moment. I’m doing stuff for the locust’snew erections” still. But Some Girls is working on new material. Not sure if its an ep or an lp, but once the new year starts I’m assuming that Some Girls will start touring again.

Thanks a lot for your time, I will of course be at the Front for the London Locust gig in September and I hope Holy Molar come back one day :D

Cool, thanks a lot. Take care. jp

Euronymouse from White Mice spills more live antics!

Euronymouse from White Mice spills more live antics!Only a few days ago the keep it fast team interviewed the mighty Mouseatoungue , bassist/screaming Mouse from Providence Noise band White Mice.

But we have just received another email! This time from Euronymouse, the drummer who has made us cry with laughter and joy from his live stage antics!

If you haven’t read the first interview please do as not only is Mouseatoungues questions bizarre but we also talk about who the group is if you don’t already know.

So kick back, have a tea, scone, or slab of meat and enjoy the interview:

Keep it fast: When you walk onto the stage to an audience who doesn’t know who you are, how do you try and make an impression to the crowd?

Euronymouse from White Mice: I do my Stevie Wonder, then My Micheal Bolton Impression, I need a Wig for that one.

When people describe White Mice, the first thing they mention is the awesome mice faces. But when you are on stage what is more important: The look or the energy of the performance?

More Importantly, its how the energy itself looks during performance, Like when You see Orgy Auras and shit.

Is there any classic bizarre stories of anything that has happened on stage or backstage?

Shit dude, ever try and Light your farts on fire, that always leads to some good adventure, especially if you actually try to light something on fire with your flatulence.

Yes we have Bled and feathered the audience (Cocheese squirts blood out of his eyes) Got us banned of course!

Yes we’ve had a PinkRabbit Pinata of doom the size of a volvo the audience destroyed once filled with Passover Matza and Intestines and t-shirts and shit(literal), last year there was the Fancy Fest in Providence, we threw Fancy Feast at the audience, 12ft long Blowup Kiddie pools with slides filled with blood and toys,Competitively snorting lines of red ants, (cause we heard Elvin Bishop did it once).

Just mainly lots of destruction through means of Fire and disgust, in whoreshipping our Lord, Cheesus Miced the slavior, with our other Bladder-Day Taints.

Has there been accidents when you have performed?

I play with Saw blades so yeah, “OOOOoops, sorry, did I cut all your new chords?” and”Whats all this hot liquid shooting on me, oh yeah its my own blood, haha silly me.”

What is the best thing someone has told you at the end of a show?

“You Give me Nightmares” or “I came during your set” or “I’m wanna Rape your Brain”, “I Love to hate Your band” “Are you fucking My dad” ,”You Mice are just wrong” (and If they see my Impressions) That Barbra Striesand Impression was great, Can you do Al Jolsen…., no, what about Al Jorgensen?

White Mice talk 9ft pink rabbits and exploding drummers!

White Mice talk blood squirting, 9ft pink rabbits and exploding drummers!White Mice, (not to be confused with these) are a three piece noise rock band from Providence, Rhode Island; home of everyone’s favourite drum “n’ bass ear bleeders, Lighting Bolt. The band is quite clearly, insane.

Their live shows involve them dressing up in lab outfits smeared in blood and wearing mouse masks to hide their faces, whilst making terrific amounts of noise with a bass, a synthesiser and a drum kit.

They seem utterly obsessed with these cute, furry rodents and notable references are strewn throughout their existence (see their “micespace” website, and various song titles such as “Mousetrap‘ and “Mousestassh Ride‘).

Having had the opportunity to listen to their mice-sic, it’s a bit like being sent through hell, riding on the back of a Raticate, something that not even Slayer could manage. Good work! Keep It Fast writer Jason managed to blag an interview with Mouseatoungue, the bassist.

This is how it went:

Keep it fast:
When you walk onto the stage to an audience who doesn’t know who you are, how do you try and make an impression to the crowd?

Mouseatoungue
from White Mice: we turn on the amps

When people describe White Mice, the first thing they mention is the awesome mice faces. But when you are on stage what is more important: The look or the energy of the performance?

stab mostly at the performance, the masks are blindfolds

Is there any classic bizarre stories of anything that has happened on stage or backstage?

fire, lightning bolts, orgasms, blood squirting eyes, zombie audiences, 9 ft pink rabbits, amps falling down, burning wires, 18in speakers catching on fire, kool-aide parties, unholy mass, clownpools filled with blood and toys, dead amplifiers, mice on fire, exploding drummers, slippery fingers, featherbombs…you name it.

Has there been accidents when you have performed?

we wear helmets for protection, and have not knocked anyone up while playing…uh..yet.

What is the best thing someone has told you at the end of a show?

I Came!

Excellent stuff, and for your listening pleasure here is White Mice playing at massart 12/09.06:

The team at keep it fast hope that White Mice come to England one day and if so we will be ready!…. With industrial ear plugs, camera and moshing boots!

Justin Pearson talks about Ground Unicorn Horn

Ground Unicorn HornThe San Diego Punk crew were very lucky indeed to get a interview with none other than Justin Pearson, lord of noise (The Locust, Holy Molar and Some Girls to name a few) to talk about the new album with his band Ground Unicorn Horn:

San Diego Punk: How would you describe the new Ground Unicorn Horn album, and what type of music fans do you think it appeals best to?

Justin Pearson: Well first off, it’s not really an album. It’s more a traditional single. But I’d also like to say that I’m not a fan of describing music that I’m part of. I’ll leave that to the “critics.” As it is, I’m sure it’s been written off plenty as a over hyped project. As far as who it would appeal to, I’d say the obvious, fans of all of the members other projects, i.e. The Locust, Some Girls, Moving Units, Year Future, the Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, and Friends Forever.

How has the response been so far?

Honestly, I’m not sure. I hear that some people dig it, but it’s too new to get a lot of feedback. I think that a lot of people don’t know what it is.

How do you feel the album came out? What do you like about it, and is there anything you’d change given the chance?

I dig it. It was fun and I really enjoyed writing with the people who are part of the band. What I’d like to change about it would be the fact that it’s so short. I wish we all had more time to write. Also the recording is pretty low budget, i.e. free. I love Sal Gallegos’s work and he did an awesome job with what he has. I’m a fan of the quality of things such as The Locust material that we have done in the last few years. I think that the drums suffered a little on the recording here.

But for the most part, its lo-fi appeal is fitting for the band, at least at this point.

You’ve assembled an all-star line up of musicians; how does Ground Unicorn Horn differ from the members’ other projects? Is this band filling an outlet that you couldn’t create with other projects?

Well it is similar to something such as Holy Molar or Head Wound City. But Ground Unicorn Horn was two days and it’s different members that any of the other projects that I just mentioned. Not only do I only sing in this, which was cool to do, but I really wanted to work with Chris and Amy as I have never played with them before.

What are the goals/plans for the band? Are there more songs in the works? What about local shows or tours?

I’m not sure at this point. Since this was recorded I have been on tour with Some Girls and now The Locust. Also I was in the studio with The Locust. Chris was super busy with the new Moving Units LP and having a baby. So that also was a factor in putting this on the back burner. But there has been plenty of talk about doing more with this. I’d love to. So we shall see.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thanks a lot.

* Who knows, maybe the keep it fast team will see Justin outside the local Poundland waiting for his mates and we could ask him a few questions of our own!

Our lives would then be complete…
